Marketing Plan - compare w/ Jadakiss and B.E.P.

Jadakiss 1st album didn't move shit in terms of units. Hardly anyone even knows that Jadakiss had an album previous to "Kiss of Death". His first album tested the waters, then after getting more experience in the game he was able to drop a hot second album.

B.E.P. (black eyed peas) didn't get much promotion prior to their release date either. So first week sales were minimal. But Interscope kept pushing the album promotion wise for two full years afterwards, until the album reached platinum.

Just some things to think about in regards to Jin's promotion and marketing plan.

I seem to recall Elephunk getting quite a bit of promotion, thanks to their huge 3 hits in a row.

Yeah, I meant that initially BEP didnt get much promotion. It took a while for things to heat up.

those are all true.. but difference is, jin is already hyped up and high expectations are set for him- with the whole 106-n-park/fight club thing, as well as all those push backed release dates. its been over two years, and the streets been waitin' to hear.

as for the promotion thing, the fact that jin's on VIRGIN isn't helping a whole lot.

I got the BEP album when it first came out and was digging it. Told a lot of people about them but most people just blew them off. Then when their music videos finally aired on television and their hits attacked the radio waves, people came back to me and told me that they should have really listened to BEP earlier.

As for Jadakiss, I wasn't aware of his first album until his sophomore album with Ruff Ryders was almost released. Kiss of Death is, in my opinion, a lot better than Kiss Tha Game Goodbye.

How does Jin compare to them? I don't think it would be wise for Jin to "wait" for the release of another (mainstream) album the way Jadakiss did. There are a lot of expectations for Jin and if his sales do not climb now, I believe that it would be difficult for another album to be released that can blow people away. I see Jin as more of a BEP marketing plan, especially since that a lot of his hype has already died down (since he debuted to the public on BET's Freestyle Friday), and his album sales would probably grow steadily as time goes by. Hopefully it doesn't take two years before the public notice him though... lol.
