but normally if u can speak Mandarin, u can sorta pick up Cantonese easy

5.Teaochew-somewhere south... i don't really know
6.Shang Hainese- Shang Hai's dilect...

^those are basically the main spoken types of chinese.. u learn all that shit if u live in singapore or malaysia... cuz when i lived in singapore... all kinds of chinese people were tehre so i learnt most of the dilects... what now.. singaporean pride

they all share the same grammar and writing

mandarin is the official language, taught in all schools... has 4 tones

cantonese is the second most popular dialect, spoken throughout the south..... has 8 to 12 tones, much harder to learn, even for ppl who speak mandarin... very different language in speech
