What up Jin!
- What's good FD!
How’s everything been?
- Cant complain. The hardwork and grind is slowly paying off every day. As long as the family is healthy and happy, everything else is a bonus.
The first question that comes to most peoples minds when it comes to Jin is: how many more times will we see your release date delayed?
- I strongly believe that October 19th will be the final release date. Reality is though, I'll feel alot more comfortable when I walk into HMV that day and purchase a copy to hold in my own hands.
You were just on 106 and Park’s 1000th episode and killed the whole freestyle session with 3 lines! Were they prewritten?
- Actually, I initially had some other stuff in mind that I was playin around with prior to the taping but when they told me its only like 6 - 8 bars I decided I'd just go up there and go off the top.
How’s it feel to be finally nearing the album release date, and seeing your CD on the shelves?
- Its definitely a combination of multiple emotions with the main ones being excited, nervous and of course anxious.
How many sales are you expecting the first week?
- I'm a realist. Lots of people often try to feed me hype and what not on some.."you guna kill the sales charts...Asian market..etc etc." I usually tend to tune that out. In an ideal world, I would rather the first weeks sales be something within the medium and watch it hold a steady pace as opposed to just seeing the numbers drop week after week.
How about the end of the year?
- Im just guna put forth 150% as far as promoting the record on my end and let the consumers answer that question.
Is platinum a goal?
- Trust me, I wanna sell records. However, my personal opinion is that there are just things that are beyond an artists control. If a record is promoted to the fullest yet the "people" just have no intentions of buying it, thats senseless anyways. As long as Im heard, Im content. Platinum would be a beautiful thing!!!
What do you feel is the main reason your album was pushed back in the first place?
- Label politics mainly, but beyond that I think it just wasnt my time yet.
People criticized Learn Chinese when it first came out. Looking back at it now, would you have still released that as a first single. If not, what would you have changed?
- I definitely would have went with Learn Chinese if I had to do it all over again knowing the response I got on it. Sometimes, in order to make a statement you have to be scrutinized.
Tell us about your new single Seniorita, and why you chose it?
- Of course Im known for battling and punchlines but theres so many layers to Jin. Senorita is definitely a song that represents Jin which I always feel is important. For the most part, its a feel good record and Im from Miami so I had to pay homage...and the next best thing to hiphop: the ladies!
If there were 3 songs off your album that you think would convince a fan to buy your album, which 3 songs would that be?
- Thank You, Come On and a record I have on there called Cold Outside. All three are records that I think show where my head is truly at with this whole experience.
Who are some special guest artists and producers on the album?
- As far as guests appearances I got Wyclef, Twista, Styles P, Aja and a new up and coming rnb artist Lyfe Jennings. Production duties include Kanye West, Just Blaze, Bink, Neo, Elite and a few more hot up and coming producers.
Which did you enjoy working with most? Are you gonna be featured on any upcoming albums? Who do you want to work with in the industry?
- It was a great experience working with each one of the individuals that contributed to the album. As of right now, Im trying to see what other albums/projects I can get on. Theres quite a handful of artists that I would be honored to do a joint with. Common, Talib and Game are a few heads that I met in Puerto Rico recently that I would love to work with.
I heard you and Southstar were talking about doing a collab. What’s up with that?
- Just waiting for the time and place!
You’ve put out almost a hundred songs and mixtape tracks since you got signed. How many hours were you usually in the studio each week?
- The studio is like a second home. Thats the only was its gota be. Of course, even when youre not at the studio you can still be productive by constantly writing and just brainstorming for ideas/concepts.
Do you got beef with any other artists right now??
- I got beef with people that hate on those that support me! Let the next man love what they love.
So what do you say to all the under-estimaters now that you’re CD’s set to drop?
- The Rest Is History. October 19th.
One last question.. when can fans expect to see J-I-N live on tour in their town?
- Make sure you check www.jinsite.com for official tour updates.
Alright thanks for the interview. Any last words/shout outs?
- Shouts to each and everyone of those folks that supported me through out these years and helped keep my career afloat simply by never giving up on the kid. Aznraps.com member since day one: Jin.
